December 19, 1937 - February 14, 2020
Rodney J. "Rod" LaRose Sr, 82, of Perryville, died Friday, February 14, 2020 at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville. He was born December 19, 1937 in Perry County, MO, to Bernard J. and Ray A. (Manche) LaRose. He and Virginia Rose "Ginger" Hotop were married April 20, 1963. She survives in Perryville. Rodney had worked as a Real Estate Appraiser. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Sereno. Legacy. Rod lived an incredible life and was an inspiration to those he touched. His work ethic, sense of humor and kindness to others are his legacy. Over a 23 year period Rod and his wife Ginger built a thriving Appraisal business. His work ethic was like no other, leading him to be the most sought after appraiser in southern Illinois. His humor and kindness was something he brought into every facet of his business and life. Rod always made everyone feel they mattered. Rod’s greatest love in life was dancing with Ginger. It is said people would clear the dance floor just to watch them. During those moments they were the only two in the room. He also loved playing cards with family, having silly string fights on Easter, sitting in the back yard after a long day enjoying a drink and relaxing with Ginger. When they were able to get away for a few days the shows at Branson were a favorite place to be. Over the last several years taking rides with his son (Rodney) all over the bottoms where he grew up and sharing his stories became a favorite pastime. His love of family was immense and he showed it at every opportunity. Teaching his oldest grandkids (Misty and Benn) to drive, oh the stories they have to tell…to taking Lexi, Nick, Brandi, Brooke and Blake over to the Roadhouse in Bremen, IL. The kids would wait impatiently for their turn to get a handful of quarters from grandpa to go play the games in the back room. The memories and values Rod gave each of us will shape the next generations of the family he loved so much. He was one of a kind and one of the greatest blessings in our lives. If he had one piece of advice to give we believe it would be this… Follow your dreams and never give up. Work hard, be forgiving and be kind to everyone you meet, hold your family close and for God’s sake laugh and make some memories. Survivors include two daughters, Christine (Rick) Francis and Julie (Pete) Huber all of Perryville, one son, Rodney J. (Susan) LaRose II of Perryville, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Friends may call 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Sereno. Funeral Mass will be at 12:00 pm Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Sereno with Rev. Joe Geders officiating.
