Florence Virginia Gruenwald

Florence Virginia (Hecht) Gruenwald of Altenburg, MO, died September 20, 2021 in St. Louis at the age of 86. Florence was born on April 24, 1935 in Altenburg to Martin and Clara (Weseloh) Hecht. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Altenburg. Florence was married to Reverend Edward Gruenwald on September 1, 1956. Florence faithfully served as mom and as "pastor's wife" along-side Ed at churches in Swift Current and Cadillac, Saskatchewan, Canada from 1957-1967, Villard and Grove Lake, MN from 1967-1979, Chapin, IL from 1979-1989, and Frazee, MN from 1989-1993. At each congregation Florence enjoyed being involved in Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, making meals for pot-lucks, and serving as a Vacation Bible School and Sunday School teacher. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her nine siblings, Vivian (Kranawetter), Raymond, Milton, Norman, Leona (Mangels), Elmer, Edward, Margarite, and Richard. Florence is survived by her five sons: Rev. Dan (Cheryl) of Grand Rapids, MI; Mark (Margaret), Manchester, MO; Steve (Bev), Crestwood, MO, Paul (Cathy), Lombard, IL, Nathan (Samantha), Plainfield, IN. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The visitation will be Thursday September 23 at 2:30 pm. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg followed by the funeral service at 4:00. Florence will be laid to rest in the Trinity Lutheran Church cemetery next to Edward. Memorials preferred to Lutheran Heritage Center and Museum.
