Leon B. Schumer

Leon B. Schumer, 97, of Perryville, Missouri died peacefully on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 10, 1928 in Schumer Springs, MO to Frank and Mary (Leible) Schumer. He and Marveline A. (Schloss) Schumer were married on March 31, 1951. She preceded him in death on March 21, 2013. Leon then married Ethel M. (Hudson) Renaud on September 5, 2015. Leon served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Guam from 1946-1947. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville where he served as an usher. Leon was also a member of the Holy Name Society, American Legion Post #133, and the Knights of Columbus #1263. Leon grew up on the farm, enjoyed all of nature, and was a country boy at heart. He was co-founder of Schumer Bros Plumbing and Heating. His hobbies included fishing, playing cards, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Survivors include Second Wife, Ethel (Renaud) Schumer of Perryville, MO; four daughters, Bonnie (Jim) Guyot of Perryville, MO, Gail (Eric) Hankins of Cincinnati, OH, Kim (the late Terry) Finger of Perryville, MO, Jan (Bob) Grogg of St. Mary, MO; two sons, Rocky (Laura) Schumer of Perryville, MO, Kip (Alisa) Schumer of Perryville, MO; three sisters, Dorothy Barry of Perryville, MO, Rose Hotop of Perryville, MO, Anna Schnurbusch of Perryville; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; six step-children, Bill (Carol) Renaud, Don (Kathy) Renaud, Butch (Lynn) Renaud, Nancy (Vince) LoRusso, Janet (Jeff) Miller, Joan (Steve) Smith; two daughters-in-law, Margaret Renaud, Sheree Cowles He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marveline A. Schumer; sister, Leola (Nester) Lappe; brother, Norbert Schumer; six half-sisters, Isabella Renaud, Dena Berhle, Ida Biehle, Clara Grus, Loretta Schumer, Bertha Lappe; four half-brothers, Henry Schumer, Edward Schumer, Edgar Sauer, Robert Sauer; three step-children, Bobby Renaud, Tom Renaud, and John Renaud. Visitation will be 4:30 - 8:00 on Friday, August 29, 2025 at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Perryville. Visitation will continue 9:00 am to 9:50 am on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Mass will take place at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville with Reverend Joe Geders, CM officiating with Deacon Tom Schumer assisting.
