Gwendolyn (Dawson) Buchheit, 62, of Perryville, passed away September 9, 2013 at her residence in rural Perry County, after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born September 23, 1950 in Lake Village, Arkansas. She was the daughter of the late Merrill Marvin “Matt” & June Elizabeth (Petzold) Dawson. She and Leo E. Buchheit were married on May 14, 2005 he survives in Perryville, Mo. Gwendolyn was a retired Home Economics Teacher. She was a member of Cape County Cowboy Church and Perry County Farm Bureau Board Secretary. She graduated from Eudora Arkansas High School in 1968 and was the 1971 Miss Rodeo Arkansas. She received her teaching degree from the University of Central Ark, and went on to teach at Cherry Valley and Greers Ferry. She retired from West Side High School as a consumer science teacher in 2005. At that time she married and moved to Perryville, Mo. She and her husband raised Black Angus Cattle and hay. She continued her love of teaching by serving as a substitute teacher at Perryville High School and the Career Center. She was an excellent seamstress, played the hammered dulcimer, accordion and harmonica. She loved to cook, and can fruits and vegetables. She also loved to paint and do crafts. She loved black and white paint horses and lemon colored beagles. She was an EMT with the Greers Ferry EMS. She also had a class A CDL. Other survivors include 1 daughter and 1 son, Amy (Wes) Faith of Rogers AR, Matt (Meaghan) Horton of Memphis TN, 2 step sons 1 step daughter Christopher (Tanya) Buchheit of Florissant MO, Bridgette (Ben) Baer of Imperial MO, Ryan (Carrie) Buchheit of Perryville, MO. Two sisters, Anita (Joe) Ladensack of Tucson AZ, Karen (Larry) Widdifield of Anderson, MO, 1 grandson, Walter “Wally” Faith and 10 step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be on Friday, September 13, 2013 at Young & Sons Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00 pm with wake service at 7:00 pm with Rev. Jim French officiating and on Saturday, at the Cape County Cowboy Church in Oak Ridge, MO, from 8:00 until time of service at 10:00 am. with Rev. Jim Matthews Officiating. Free will breakfast will be served at the church on Saturday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am. Burial in St Michael’s Cemetery in Apple Creek, Mo. Memorials are preferred American Cancer Society, Cape County Cowboy Church or St. Michael Cemetery or Serenity Hospice. Young & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Perryville, MO provided the arrangements.
