Eugene J. Taylor

Eugene J. Taylor, 87, of Perryville, died on June 2, 2018 at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville, MO. He was born March 12, 1931 in Perry County, MO son of John J. and Ora E. (Johnson) Taylor. He and Dorothy L. Hudson were married on January 20, 1951. She survives in Perryville, MO. Eugene was best known as the owner and operator of Gene’s Barber Shop. He was a one-of-a-kind barber, known to cut over 60 heads of hair on a good day. Gene will be fondly remembered by family, friends, and lifelong customers for his ready wit, his sharp commentary, and his clever nicknames for those he loved. Eugene was an avid fisherman, skilled dancer, lover of John Deere tractors and restoring cars, and he knew the secret to growing the perfect ear of corn, which he loved sharing with his family and friends. He was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know and love him. He was a member of American Legion Post 133 and AmVets Post 94. He was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean War era. Save a dance for all of us Gene! Survivors include three sons and one daughter, Randy (Joyce) Taylor, Richard (Elizabeth) Taylor, Glen (Kay) Taylor, Joyce (Denny) Sutterer, all of Perryville; 11 grandchildren, Travis (Misty) Taylor, Randy Taylor, Katie Palmer, Joshua (Teri) Taylor, Ashley (David Bryden) Taylor, Ethan Taylor, Cole (Kim) Taylor, Kristen (Kris) Klaus, Jared Sutterer, Alison (Chris) Porter, Danielle (Matt) Rayoum and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Hubert, Clyde, Monroe, Lawrence, Leslie “Babe”; and three sisters, Pearl Schulte, Irene Turlin and Betty Phillips. Visitation will be held at Young & Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 5 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and on Wednesday, June 6 from 6:30 am until time of service at 10:00 am with Rev. Don Estes officiating. Military honors provided by American Legion Post 133 and Air Force. Burial in Home Cemetery. Memorials preferred to American Heart Association and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Young & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Perryville, MO provided the arrangements.
