Dale N. Hotop

Dale N. Hotop, 70, of Perryville died February 12, 2016 at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville, MO. He was born October 1, 1945 in Perry County, MO, son of Norbert J. and Edna C. (Bohnert) Hotop. He and Peggy Lane Wood were married on September 20, 1969. She survives in Perryville, MO. Dale was proud of his four years of service in the Navy. He stayed in close contact with his Navy brothers. He retired from GM and along the way made many friends; from the hitch hikers he helped to his jokingly “adopted” sons Lou and Jeff and countless others. Dale was very proud of his son Jason and all his accomplishments. He loved a good rabbit and squirrel hunt. Many evenings were spent with his friends at the Poker and Pitch table which were never short of jokes to be told. He had a deep love for all of his family and thoroughly enjoyed picking on his brother-in-laws. He always had a beagle or two and his favorite cat at home and enjoyed watching his hummingbirds. Once at Outback Steak House with Jason, Tammy, Eugene and Norma, a sweet little blonde haired girl ran past the table; Dale pointed at her and said “I want one of those”. Dale was blessed with three beautiful granddaughters who were the light of his life. They always wanted papa to chase them through the house with his fly swatter, sit on the floor and roll bouncy balls, read books, give them fast 4-wheeler rides, or help him mow grass. They loved painting his nails and beautifying him with makeup. He enjoyed taking them on trips and loved to see the smile on their face when he brought home a beagle pup. He cherished every drawing they created. And Laura, “you are the guilty one”. Dale will be deeply missed by so many. We are smiling through our sadness knowing Dale is once again with his beloved son Wesley. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Highland, MO, K of C Council 1263, VFW Post 4282, Elks Lodge 2701, and American Legion Post 133. Other survivors include one son, Jason (Tammy) Hotop of Perryville; three sisters, Carol (Joe) Lottes, Ginger (Rodney) LaRose, all of Perryville, Diane (Jim) Mattingly of Arnold; two brothers, Donald (Tracy) Hotop, David (Joan) Hotop all of Perryville; and three granddaughters, Ashlyn Renee, Ava Nicole, and Abriana Wesley Hotop. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Wesley Dean Hotop. Visitation will be held at Young & Sons Funeral Home on Monday, February 15 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm with parish wake at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, February 16 from 6:30 to 9:20 am with rosary at 8:30 am. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Highland at 10:00 am with Rev. Milton Ryan and Rev. Robert Brockland concelebrating. Burial in church cemetery with military graveside provided by American Legion Post 133 and Navy Honors Team. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to American Kidney Foundation or College Scholarship Fund.
